Town expands free Wi-Fi to 4 new parks
The Town of Grand Island has installed free public Wi-Fi at 4 additional parks, bringing the total to 9 parks with wireless internet access.
The expansion, funded by a $2.1 million federal broadband grant, focuses on parks in areas where residents may lack reliable home internet access. All connections are free and do not require a password or account.
The new sites include Beaver Island State Park, Buckhorn Island State Park, and East River Road Linear Park. Each location provides coverage across picnic areas, playgrounds, and community buildings.
"Reliable internet access is essential for education, job searches, and connecting with Town services. These park Wi-Fi installations help close the digital divide in our community."
— Grand Island Town Supervisor
The Wi-Fi service is managed by the Town's Department of General Services and uses commercial-grade equipment designed for outdoor use. Average speeds are 50 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload.
