The Town of Grand Island is committed to open government and full compliance with New York State's Freedom of Information Law (FOIL). All public records maintained by the Town are available for inspection and copying, subject to statutory exemptions under Public Officers Law § 87(2).

5 Business Days

Under NY POL § 89(3), the Records Access Officer must respond within five (5) business days by granting access, denying access with specific exemptions under § 87(2), or providing a written acknowledgment specifying an approximate determination date.

Fee Schedule

Pursuant to NY POL § 87(1)(b)(iii), inspection of records and transmission via email/electronic format are free of charge. Paper photocopies up to 9×14 inches are assessed at statutory $0.25 per page.

Right to Appeal

Pursuant to NY POL § 89(4)(a), any denial of access may be appealed in writing within thirty (30) days to the Town Board / FOIL Appeals Officer.
